I would love to tell you, as I normally would, about the significant week of football we have just had. Unfortunately the past week only threw up one surprise, with eights and nines tipped all over the country.
This particularly ‘ho-hum’ week of football began last Friday night when the Pies’ young brigade, led by Dayne Beams and Steele Sidebottom, accounted for a rather impressive Bulldogs outfit who have the ability to cause a few upsets this year. Unfortunately for the Dogs it was the same old suspects keeping them in the contest with Griffen, Cross and Boyd all playing typically great games.
On Saturday afternoon Essendon, whose premiership credentials strengthen by the week, and Geelong accounted for Brisbane and Melbourne respectively in very predictable fashion. Listening to talk back radio over the weekend I found it hard to fathom how impressed Melbourne supporters were with their performance. Sure there was signs of improvement however, a nine goal thumping is a nine goal thumping and should not be so acceptable.
